SmartCalc was founded on a single belief: everyone deserves access to powerful calculation tools without barriers. Whether you are a student solving a maths problem, a professional estimating a loan, a trader checking live currency rates, a developer converting hex colours, a fitness enthusiast tracking BMI, or an engineer applying Ohm's Law — you should not need to install software, create an account, or pay a subscription fee.
Our mission is to build the most complete, accurate, and privacy-respecting free calculator platform on the internet — and keep it that way, forever.

Live Data Feeds
Unlike most calculator tools, SmartCalc fetches real-time data where it matters:
- Currency Converter: Pulls live exchange rates from the European Central Bank via the Frankfurter open API (no API key required), with automatic fallback to the fawazahmed0 CDN. A status badge shows whether rates are live or reference.
- Crypto Converter: Fetches live prices for 40+ cryptocurrencies from the CoinGecko public API, including 24-hour price change and market cap data.
Privacy-First Architecture
Privacy is a core design principle — every architectural decision reflects it:
- All calculations execute in JavaScript within your browser tab
- No calculation inputs or results are transmitted to any server
- Calculation history lives only in browser memory and clears on tab close
- Only your theme preference is saved via localStorage — on your device only
- The password generator uses the Web Crypto API (window.crypto.getRandomValues)
- We don't fingerprint users or build behavioural profiles
Design Philosophy
SmartCalc v3 was redesigned from scratch with editorial-grade typography — Plus Jakarta Sans for its clean geometric precision, Fraunces serif for display elegance, and DM Mono for numbers and code. The violet accent palette was chosen for its distinctiveness across both light and dark modes. Every component was built to feel premium, not generic.
Accuracy & Reliability
Every formula is sourced from authoritative references. EMI uses the standard amortisation model. BMI uses the WHO reference formula. TDEE uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation. Unit conversion factors are sourced from NIST and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. The scientific calculator uses IEEE 754 double-precision arithmetic (~15 significant digits).
Accessibility
SmartCalc is built for everyone. Colour contrast meets WCAG AA standards in both modes. Interactive elements use proper ARIA labels and roles. Keyboard navigation is supported throughout. Touch targets are sized for mobile. The layout works from 320px phones to 4K monitors.
Technology
SmartCalc is built with pure HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript — no frameworks, no npm, no build tools. This means sub-second load times, no supply-chain vulnerabilities, and a fully transparent codebase. External dependencies are limited to Google Fonts (typography) and two public APIs (currency and crypto rates).
