What is GPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) is a standardised measure of academic achievement used by colleges and universities worldwide. In India, universities use both a 10-point CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and the 4.0 GPA scale. Our calculator uses the 4.0 scale, the standard in the US and increasingly used for international applications.
The 4.0 GPA Grade Scale
| Grade | Grade Points | Percentage Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.0 | 90–100% |
| A− | 3.7 | 87–89% |
| B+ | 3.3 | 83–86% |
| B | 3.0 | 80–82% |
| B− | 2.7 | 77–79% |
| C+ | 2.3 | 73–76% |
| C | 2.0 | 70–72% |
| D | 1.0 | 60–69% |
| F | 0.0 | Below 60% |
How Weighted GPA is Calculated
Example: A(4cr) + B+(3cr) + A−(4cr)
= (4.0×4 + 3.3×3 + 3.7×4) ÷ (4+3+4)
= (16 + 9.9 + 14.8) ÷ 11 = 40.7 ÷ 11 = 3.70 GPA
